For many adults, reaching the decision to seek an ADHD assessment has taken years. Most adults who come to us are not looking for a label, but a real understanding of themselves — why certain patterns have persisted throughout their life, and what that means going forward.
ADHD is frequently misunderstood — and often missed entirely in adults, particularly in women. Many of the qualities associated with it are genuine strengths: creativity, humour, energy, original thinking and an ability to problem-solve in ways others simply don't.
Our assessments are led by Dr Sirja van Zyl, who will be your main point of contact from first conversation to final meeting. Standard questionnaires can be a useful starting point, but they do not always tell the full story — and we never make clinical decisions based on scores alone.
We recognise ADHD as a natural form of neurodiversity — not something to be fixed or overcome. Our aim is to understand your individual profile — your strengths, your differences, and where support might make a genuine difference.
"Many adults describe the assessment as an important turning point: a moment when longstanding patterns finally began to make sense, and they were able to understand themselves with greater compassion."
We have developed particular expertise in working with adults whose ADHD has gone unrecognised, often because their presentation does not fit the picture people typically imagine.
ADHD in women is frequently missed or misattributed to anxiety, depression or personality. Many women reach us after years of being told they are simply disorganised, emotional or overwhelmed, without anyone looking deeper.
Autism and ADHD frequently co-occur, and each can mask or complicate the other. We have significant experience in assessing and understanding both together, rather than in isolation.
High intelligence and professional success do not rule out ADHD. Many high-achieving adults have developed sophisticated coping strategies that mask significant underlying difficulties, often at considerable personal cost.
Anxiety, depression, burnout and exhaustion are common experiences for adults with unrecognised ADHD. If you have struggled with your mental health and wondered whether something underlying has been missed, an assessment can be an important step.
The initial consultation gives us the chance to meet you, understand what is going well and where you would like more support — and to make sure a full assessment is genuinely the most helpful next step. At the end we discuss the most appropriate way forward together.
A detailed exploration of your developmental history and current circumstances using NICE-recognised assessment tools (ACE+ or DIVA). You are welcome to attend on your own or bring someone who knows you well.
A brief computer-based task assessing attention, activity and impulsivity. It provides objective data that complements the clinical picture built through the rest of the assessment — and should feel like a conversation, not a test.
Dr Sirja and her clinical team review everything gathered, then meet with you — and anyone you would like to bring — to share the outcome, answer your questions, and discuss next steps and support. A detailed written report is included and can be shared with employers, universities, healthcare providers and NHS teams. Your report includes practical recommendations for work, study, relationships and emotional wellbeing — whether or not a diagnosis is made.
Receiving a diagnosis — or any outcome from an assessment — is often just the beginning. We want to make sure you feel supported in whatever comes next.
There is no pressure to make any decisions immediately after the assessment.
For some adults, medication can be an important part of ADHD support — though it is never the only option, and works best alongside practical strategies and understanding. Any decision about medication is entirely yours to make at your own pace.
You can share our report with local NHS services and request a medication review through that route. We also work in close partnership with experienced psychiatrists across Kent and Sussex.
We work in partnership with Dr Vibhav Shetty at mindcareconsultancy.co.uk — providing warm, highly professional and personalised guidance on medication management for adults with ADHD.
