Many children, young people and adults experience traits associated with both autism and ADHD. Our combined assessments are designed to provide a thorough understanding of the whole person, rather than looking at either profile in isolation.
A combined assessment may be helpful when there are signs of both autism and ADHD, where previous support has only explained part of the picture, or where one diagnosis has already been made but questions remain.
For many people, overlapping profiles can present differently across home, school, work or social settings. A specialist combined assessment helps bring these pieces together.
Research suggests that around half of autistic people also have ADHD, and vice versa. Despite this, the two are often assessed separately, or one is identified while the other goes unrecognised.
Each presentation can mask or mimic the other. ADHD-related impulsivity can look like social differences. Autistic masking can look like inattention. Anxiety — which is common in both — can become the focus of support, while the underlying profile remains unaddressed.
A combined assessment looks at the full picture from the outset, rather than working through each possibility one at a time.
Booking a combined autism and ADHD assessment represents a saving of £200 compared with booking each assessment separately. One integrated process, one comprehensive report, one clinical team.
A combined assessment brings together our full autism and ADHD assessment processes, delivered in a coordinated and thoughtful way by the same clinical team — led by Dr Sirja van Zyl. Rather than attending separate appointments for each, the process is integrated — giving a more complete and efficient picture of the whole person.
For full details of what each component involves, see the individual assessment pages:
The initial consultation gives us the chance to meet you, understand the full picture of current strengths and difficulties, and make sure a combined assessment is genuinely the most helpful next step. We will discuss openly whether a full combined assessment is needed from the outset, or whether it would be more appropriate to begin with one profile.
The full combined assessment integrates both the autism and ADHD assessment components. It can be completed in a single day or split across two separate appointments — whichever works best for you and your family. Many people find two separate meetings more manageable and less tiring than completing everything in one go. We will discuss your preference when booking.
Dr Sirja and her clinical team review all the information gathered across both presentations. The feedback session covers both autism and ADHD findings together — giving you a complete and integrated picture. A single written report covering both presentations is included, with practical recommendations that address the whole person. This can be shared with schools, universities, employers or healthcare providers, including NHS teams.
We recognise both autism and ADHD as natural forms of neurodiversity — not something to be fixed or overcome.
Our aim is not simply to determine whether diagnostic criteria are met for one or both presentations, but to build a genuine understanding of the whole person — their strengths, their differences, and where support would make the most difference.
We offer follow-up appointments to discuss findings and practical strategies, liaison with school, college or employers, and additional resources tailored to the individual. There is no pressure to make any decisions immediately after the assessment.
When both autism and ADHD need to be understood together, a combined assessment gives you the most complete picture. Our information pack explains how the combined process works - and whether it might be the right approach for you or your child.
